Sustainable goat farming in the Medditerranean:
Immerse yourself in the landscapes of Málaga, a region with deep-rooted pastoral traditions and home to the Malagueña goat, a native breed renowned for its milkquality and adaptability to semi-extensive conditions. Andalusia alone produces over 40 % of Spain’s goat milk, yet organic and extensive systems face increasingpressure. This cross visit showcases how farmers, cooperatives, and advisors areblending traditional knowledge with innovation to build more sustainable andresilient systems.
What you can expect from this cross visit
- Sustainable pasture management under dry Mediterranean conditions (average annual rainfall: 400 mm), including direct seeding, multi-species pastures, andinput reduction strategies.
- Organic farm open days - important element of raising awareness of consumer
- On-farm research and digital tools for monitoring livestock and optimising grazing systems.
- Field visits to organic farms, cheese cooperatives, and farmers’ organisations.
- Interactive discussions on resilience, climate change adaptation, and advisory practices in pastoral systems.
- Governance insights, with a focus on farmer cooperation and advisory support.

Practical information & registration
You will be asked to provide some personal information, a brief description of your interest in joining this visit and your capacity in covering your travel costs. In case you do not have budget to cover all your travel costs, BioAcademy as advisory partner/subcontractor in the Netherlands has at the moment still the opportunity to reimburse part of your travel costs. Eligible costs for reimbursement are transport (train, bus, flight), accomodation (2-3 nights) and social lunch and dinners up to a limit of € 800,-. (Travel max € 300,- / Accomodation max € 300,- / lunch/dinners max € 200,-). This reimbursement does not include the food and transport expenses to reach Málaga.
